- Location: Padaparamba, Malappuram
- Category: Residential
- Total Area: 2558 sq.ft.
The design concept centers around a striking architectural feature: a single box projecting from the front elevation of the residence. This bold element serves as the focal point of the structure, creating a visual contrast against the surrounding architecture. Its unique placement enhances the overall aesthetic appeal, making it a standout feature of the home’s exterior.
The bedrooms in the BOX-A-HOUSE are thoughtfully placed on the right side of the building, taking full advantage of both functional and aesthetic considerations. Each bedroom is equipped with uniquely designed windows that play a crucial role in optimizing the interior environment. These windows are specifically designed to harness the Venturi effect, a principle that involves the acceleration of air through a constricted space. By strategically positioning the windows and manipulating airflow, the design creates a natural ventilation system, drawing in fresh air while expelling warmer, stagnant air.
The Venturi effect helps regulate the temperature inside the bedrooms by promoting cross-ventilation, reducing reliance on artificial cooling methods. As the air moves through the constricted window spaces, it creates a breeze that enhances the comfort of the room, ensuring a pleasant atmosphere year-round. This not only improves indoor air quality but also minimizes energy consumption, contributing to the overall sustainability of the design.
Moreover, the architectural integration of these windows adds an intriguing visual element to the exterior, giving the building a dynamic and modern appearance. The use of this technique reflects a commitment to innovation, combining practical solutions with cutting-edge design to enhance both the functionality and the aesthetic appeal of the residence.
The plot on which BOX-A-HOUSE sits is long and narrow, with a modest width of just 13 meters, presenting both design challenges and opportunities. To make the most of this compact space, we chose to implement an elongated floor plan that stretches the living areas across the length of the site. By doing so, we created an open, spacious flow that maximizes the available square footage without compromising on functionality. This design approach optimizes the use of each square meter, ensuring that every room feels connected and cohesive, while also preserving an airy, expansive atmosphere. The elongated layout helps create a seamless transition between spaces, allowing for both privacy in the bedrooms and social interaction in the communal areas.
To further enhance the comfort of the home, we focused on incorporating extended ventilation throughout the entire residence. The clever use of open spaces, large windows, and well-positioned vents promotes the flow of fresh air, significantly improving natural ventilation. This not only helps to cool the interior but also maximizes natural light, brightening up the rooms and giving the entire space a more open, welcoming feel. With abundant daylight filtering through the strategically placed windows, the home remains illuminated without heavy reliance on artificial lighting, creating an energy-efficient environment. The combination of natural airflow and light brings harmony and a sense of vitality to the living areas, ensuring a comfortable, sustainable living experience.
In conclusion, the design of BOX-A-HOUSE effectively addresses the challenges posed by its long and narrow plot, turning constraints into opportunities for innovation. The elongated floor plan maximizes the use of space while fostering a sense of openness, ensuring each area is both functional and comfortable. The extended ventilation system enhances the home’s natural light and airflow, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency. Through thoughtful design, BOX-A-HOUSE stands as a testament to the potential of modern architecture, seamlessly blending practicality with aesthetic appeal to create a living space that is both inviting and environmentally conscious.
